Namayiana Wildlife Adoption Programme
The Namayiana Wildlife Adoption Programme been developed to enable the Nairobi Animal Orphanage raise adequate funds to be used to provide medical, emotional and psychological care to animals as well as providing humanity the opportunity to take part in owning and caring for wildlife.
The task of taking care of these orphaned and emotionally tortured wild animals is not only time consuming but also very expensive as they require special attention and constant monitoring to evaluate their progress.
These animals are vaccinated on arrival at the orphanage as a precautionary measure to ensure the animal is not contagious of any diseases that are likely to spread to others. Deworming for each individual animal occurs after every 3 months. Primates in particular are treated with extra precaution, as they pose a greater threat in terms of disease outbreaks to human beings and other animals. Thereafter, the animals are provided with the much needed shelter and food and extensive care depending on their status when they were found for the entire period of their stay at the orphanage.
Through the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, the survival of these wildlife is ensured and Kenya’s heritage is protected.
We thank all those who have kindly contributed towards the Nairobi Animal orphanage in cash, material goods, as well as personally feeding the animals. It is for this reason that most of the animals have been well cared for here at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, indeed a refuge for animals!
Nairobi Animal Orphanage
Nairobi Animal Orphanage is famed for its world renowned efforts to care for abandoned or injured wild animals. For this reason wild animal of all kinds and species, some from as far as West and North Africa have found a home at the facility. Every animal at the Orphanage has a unique story. Namayiana is the Maasai word for ‘the blessed one’!
Our Appeal
Just as every animal in the orphanage has a unique story, so are their very unique needs. By becoming an honorary adopting parent or sponsor, you can help the Nairobi Animal Orphanage by helping meet these needs today.
Big picture
For every sponsorship/share received, 50% will be directed to the Kenya Wildlife Service Trust Fund whose objective is to provide a sustainable source for funding wildlife conservation and its habitats.

Our animals
All you have to do is pick your choice of animal. Every animal is available for adoption. However, the cost/fee is not standardized as different animals have different needs. Each animal is divided into shares based on the cost of its annual upkeep. A share costs Kshs. 1,000/= (Current Rate 1 USD=Kshs.78/=)
Namayiana Club members can become adoptive parents or sponsors through the purchase of shares of individual animals. You can buy one, or a number of shares or even shares for the whole animal! All you have to do is pick out your choice animal from the list below indicating the representative shares. Fill in the adoption form attached or send an email to rmworks@kws.go.ke

- Recognition-your name will be added to a plaque beside the cage of your choice animal/adoptees wall at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage

- An invitation for you to visit and participate in the annual Nairobi Animal Orphanage activities on Members Open Day
- Your membership gives you a chance to participate in our Annual Animal Celebration where as a member one can adopt their animal of choice.

OTHER ADOPTION SUPPORT OPTIONS
1. Unrestricted Adoption
These are really valuable to the Animal Orphanage because they allow Kenya Wildlife Service to allocate funds where the need is the greatest. These funds are available for immediate use. You can
- Drop your contribution into our donation boxes at various selected points including the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, Safari Walk, KWS reception and our various parks and reserves gates countrywide.
- Buy merchandise for the Animal Adoption Program from designated points linked to Kifaru Shop or online purchase(T-shirts, shirts and caps, cups, key holders, bumper sticker etc)
Alternatively,
- Acquire an adoption form at KWS Headquarters (orphanage, Safari Walk, the reception, our website www.kws.go.ke) and fill it fully. Submit your duly filled form and your gift to the Senior Warden - Nairobi Animal Orphanage or the KWS Resource Mobilisation Department.
